As Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, we thought we would ask our founder Susie about some of her favourite British luxury brands. Because no one really wants yet another supermarket chocolate selection, do they?
I absolutely rely on my Smythson diary to keep me organised: their paper is a joy to write on. Mine is tiny enough to take anywhere and the bright yellow always cheers me up.
It’s a classic, but a goodie. I’ve loved shopping at Liberty ever since I was a teenager … it was more “window shopping and dreaming” in those days if I’m perfectly honest! This scarf was a gift from Mister Mildred a few years ago, and its timeless design means I love it just as much now as I did when I received it.
A London institution, dating from 1698, the whole experience of buying wine at BBR is like stepping back in time, in a totally fabulous way. And in an early example of the #GirlBoss movement, the business was set up by a woman. Still housed on their original site, if you feel giddy in the shop, you can be reassured that it is probably due to the wonky floors rather than the alcohol!
It stands to reason I think our Celebration Pendant is the ultimate romantic gift! This is a sneak preview of our newest design, an 18ct white gold pendant with the word “Love” spelt out in diamonds.
Another classic, but I adore the “Charleston Gray” we have used in our home. It has added so much warmth to this north-facing room. The quality of the paint is incredible – it has so much depth that it looks completely different depending on where in the house it is, and the time of day. One thing that is constant is how soothing this room is now.
A really stylish company specialising in silk squares. Mister Mildred is currently sporting this one which has an ancient map of London printed on it. I love the care they put into their products to ensure that the quality is spot on.
Karen is an up and coming perfumer and aromatherapist who works one on one with clients to create bespoke fragrances for them. As a Taurean I’m very particular about scents and I hate to wear the same as other people. Karen has an amazing talent for developing a scent that is perfect for each client. Working with Karen is very much on my wish list for this year!
The ultimate silk pyjamas! These are definitely good enough to pass as outerwear. The designs are all stunning, but my top pick is this zebra pattern.
London-based, super-stylish, hand made in the traditional way and using quality materials … is it any wonder I love Cubitts spectacles? They even let you try a few pairs at home to see which frame suits you best. I love that level of customer service. My current favourite is the Bingfield frame in gold.
Tate have so many exciting exhibitions taking place this year. And I have fond (albeit sleep-deprived) memories of NCT meetups at Tate Modern. A membership is a must to make the most of it.
I couldn’t do a Valentine’s feature without including chocolates. Willie’s single estate bars are heavenly! I was blown away by how much flavour each variety has.
Wishing you a love-filled Valentine’s, however you choose to spend it.
Love, Mildred xx
