Here at Mildred Jones HQ, we obviously think the Celebration Pendant is pretty amazing, and it seems that many of you agree. We are lucky to have customers with impeccable taste!here.
So, what exactly is the Celebration Pendant?
It came about as our founder Susie wanted to treat herself to a special piece of jewellery to celebrate the birth of her son. She wanted something which could be personalised, so that it would have special meaning. Personalised jewellery is enormously popular, and there was no shortage of brands to choose from, but Susie couldn’t find anything which was the quality she wanted. Influenced by her love of fine antique jewellery, she had a vision of a piece which would last a lifetime and beyond, something which could be handed down to her son when the time came, to become a treasured memento and piece of family history.
Susie decided to draw on her jewellery knowledge to design her own piece. She says “the shape is actually based on Smarties chocolates – I was eating far too many of them at the time! I had looked at some lockets in the shops but I wanted something heavier. The Smartie shape means the pendant is beautifully rounded. It feels amazing!”. The top of the pendant is based on a pocket watch, and is cleverly designed to rotate, meaning the pendant is effectively double sided. Susie says “I am obsessive about details, and noticed that a lot of pendants are ruined by having a really unattractive loop (known as a bail). I didn’t want mine to be a plain circle so we developed a gorgeous heavy oval shape which finishes the pendant off perfectly”.
It’s Beautifully Made …
Susie commissioned a top London workshop to have her pendant made in solid 18ct gold. She had the word “Buzz” set in diamonds on one side, and a bee hand engraved on the other. People loved the design and the concept of it becoming a future heirloom which would tell their story for generations to come. One person even asked to buy the necklace from her neck! Susie realised there was a gap in the market, and the Celebration Pendant was born.
… and versatile
Because the Celebration Pendant is hand made to order, personalisation options go beyond the standard names, dates or initials. No two pendants are alike, and even if two customers happened to order the exact same personalisations (it hasn’t happened yet!), both pendants would still have a totally different meaning to their owners, as the story behind them would be completely different.
The original Celebration Pendant was made from 18ct yellow gold, but due to customer demand, it is now also made in 18ct white gold and platinum, as well as a limited edition run in 18ct rose gold. For more on this, do have a look at Part 2 of this series, where we look at how the Celebration Pendant is made.
It really is a special way to wear the story of what is important to you in your life, in the form of a miniature piece of art. We hope you love wearing yours!
Love, Mildred xx
